hardwood floor mop

Hardwood floors are not something you associate with a floor mop but a hardwood floor mop is very necessary to keeping your floor looking beautiful. There are many different kinds of hardwood floors and the wood you choose is up to your individual definition of beauty. Do you want a dark, rich look or a light and airy ambiance? Are you a lover of modern décor or do you like the atmosphere of earlier eras? When it comes to hardwood floors there is a lot to decide but first, you should know what it takes to care for it. A floor mop is the least that you will need to keep your hardwood floor looking like new.

Routine Care and Cleaning

Any hardwood floor needs regular care to keep it looking like new. In fact, this type of floor is pretty labor intensive beginning with sweeping and dust mopping. It is recommended that you dust everyday with a microfiber dust mop. Microfiber materials work with static electricity to trap dirt, debris, and pet hair. A microfiber mop won’t scratch the floor as a regular broom will. One way to minimize your daily labor is to use WizMop as your dust mop. WizMop comes with a microfiber head that is very effective at picking up dust and dirt when used as a dry mop and you can wash the mop head when it gets dirty.

Hardwood floors should be vacuumed at least once a week to pick up anything your dust mop missed. Use a floor brush attachment, never a beater bar. Be very careful of the wheels of your vacuum as they can scratch and gouge the floor.

Once a month you should damp mop your hardwood floor. Be sure to use a product made specifically for hardwood floors. Dilute it according to directions and add it to your WizMop’s refillable receptacle. You’re not going to be using the spray feature very much as hardwood floors should not be exposed to a lot of liquid. Spray sparingly then mop until you’ve used up all the liquid. Repeat this process until you’ve mopped the entire floor. The WizMop spray mop is perfect for this type of minimal-liquid cleaning.

Needless to say, you should never use a standard wet mop or a steam mop on your hardwood floors. These can dull the finished and damage the surface of the wood.

Regular Maintenance and Preventative Care

If your hardwood floor has a glossy finish like polyurethane you should give it a good, gentle polish every few months to restore the shine. Don’t ever use wax on your hardwood floor unless it is specifically recommended by the manufacturer.

Wood is very susceptible to fading and warping when exposed to light and heat. You should protect your hardwood floors from the ultraviolet light in the sun’s rays and also from heat coming through your windows. Use curtains or shades to shield your hardwood floor and try to keep your home’s climate stable. If you vacation away from home in the summer make sure that your home’s temperature doesn’t rise above the low 80’s.

Needless to say, you should clean all spills immediately and never use ammonia or other common cleaning products. Never use vinegar on your hardwood floor. If you have a spill that needs to be mopped up, sop up as much as possible with a soft towel and finish by using your WizMop and using the spray feature sparingly.

To protect and preserve your hardwood floor you should make liberal use of mats and area rugs that are specifically made for hardwood floors. Rugs with rubber non-slip backing can trap moisture and dirt to damage the floor. Pad the bottom of furniture legs so the floor does not get scratched and avoid wearing shoes that will scuff and scratch the floor.

If you have pets, be sure to keep their nails trimmed to prevent scratches to your floor. Place mats on both sides of pet doors so that their feet are as clean as possible when they use the hardwood floor.

Mopping Hardwood Floors

Depending on what type of floor you have you should choose your floor cleaner and hardwood floor mop carefully. WizMop is the ideal solution as a floor mop for hardwood floors because you can control how much liquid goes onto the floor. Your hardwood floors will not be warped with too much liquid, you can use a cleaner specifically made for your floor, and you won’t have to struggle with moving around a bucket that might be knocked over. WizMop is the all you will need to maintain your hardwood floors’ beauty.
